WARD, EBER Propeller. U. S. No. 136001. Built 1888, of 1,343 Gross Tons. On April 19, 1909, the vessel foundered in the Straits of Mackinac, and became a total loss. Of 16 persons on board, 5 lives were lost.

ICE FLOE SANK THE EBER WARD WITHOUT WARNING.
The sinking of the EBER WARD 5 miles west of Mackinaw City yesterday was due to striking an ice flow, according to dispatches. With her cargo of corn she will be a total loss. Five men were carried down with the boat and the survivors, who were on deck at the time, got off in a yawl boat and were rescued by the steamer BENNINGTON. They were taken to Mackinaw City.
