WOODBRIDGE Schooner, lost deck load on Lake Michigan, April 1848. Made port. Damage $1,000
      Casualty List for 1848
      Toronto Globe, Sept. 13, 1848

      . . . . .

The schooner Wm. WOODBRIDGE, Capt. Napier, arrived at Chicago, after having buffeted the storm 30 hours. She was on her way down, with a load of wheat and 100 bbls. pork, which was on deck. She got down near the Manitous, and was met by the blow about 9 o'clock on Monday night. After six hours attempting to make head against the gale, during which time she lost her deck load, main jib, gangways, and part of her bulwarks, she squared away for Chicago. She scud all day under bare poles, with two hawsers trailed out behind to retard her speed, notwithstanding which she made ten miles an hour. Her wheat is in apparent good order.--------Chicago Journal
