Brig SAGINAW, went ashore below the North pier, (Buffalo) with a cargo of wheat. Sept 28, 1849.

      The various craft that were on the lake last night had a severe time of it. About nine o'clock in the evening a furious gale sprung up, which continued without cessation until morning. Several vessels which left port for the west were compelled to put back, and the propeller ILLINOIS and brig SAGINAW, both loaded with wheat, were driven ashore below the pier, in attempting to enter the harbor during the height of the gale. The propeller, however, succeeded in getting afloat this morning, and is now in port, but the brig is hard aground, and will have to be lightened before she can be got off.

THE GALE -There has been a very high wind blowing during the last twenty-four hours. The brig SAGINAW in attempting to enter port last evening, was driven ashore near the outer pier, where she now lies in about 6 feet water.
