Bunker Hill (Steamboat), burnt, 1 Sep 1851

Description
Full Text

BUNKER HILL Steamer, was burned to the waters edge on Monday night about 1 o'clock, while lying at the dock at Tonawanda. A vessel lying near her was also damaged some by the fire, and we understand that it was with considerable exertion that the large warehouse was saved from burning. The BUNKER HILL was owned by the Cleveland and Tonawanda Company, and was used for towing vessels up the river. There was no insurance on the boat.

Tonawanda, Oct. 27. - While searching for the bodies of the two women, recently drowned, Chief of Police Ellioct and George Houck had a narrow escape from drowning near La Salle yesterday afternoon. They were in a launch owned by Mr. Houck and the boat ran upon the submerged wreck of the schooner, BUNKER HILL. The wreck tore a hole in the bottom of the launch, which sank so rapidly the men were compelled to wade part way to the shore and drag the boat with them.
