      THE STEAMER EMPIRE STATE
We are pleased to be able to state through information received by the O'Rielly Western Line, that this splendid steamer is not in so bad a condition as was at first supposed. When she struck the pier she drove a hole through her side near the bow and immediately commenced filling. Her engine partially stopped, and it was with great difficulty she was got into the river. The Captain ran her over to the Ohio side, where she commenced settling. After much labor her hold was partially emptied and her engine got to work. She was driven
on to the beach, and now lies with her nose in the sand, but her hold has been pumped out dry.

At noon Monday (11/3) the EMPIRE STATE came up from Buffalo, and notwithstanding the fresh northwester and the heavy sea, rounded to handsomely, and was within a hundrew feet of the pier, when striking the bar she refused to answer her helm, and struck her bow on the east pier, tearing away her stem and making a hole in her bow large enough to admit the passage of a horse and cart.
The boat struck just at the junction of the mason and timber work of the pier, seperating them a width of 4 ft. Capt. Hazard, backed his boat, rounded to and made the entrance of the harbor in fine style. This was one of the most masterly maneuvers we ever saw.
The EMPIRE STATE on comin in had 3 ft. of water inside, but was run aground on the Ohio City side and the water pumped out.
She will be able to leave her present berth by Wednesday, and will be in running order in a week, a good fortune which few who saw her strike the pier anticipated. - Cleveland Herald.

      . . . . .

THE EMPIRE STATE. - This great steamer, which was sunk in Cleveland harbor about a week since was raised and repaired sufficiently to enable her to float, and she left last evening for this port, where she arrived at a good hour this morning, but with evidently a good deal of water in her. She immediately started for the dry dock which she may have some difficulty in reaching, in consequence of her great draft of water. At any rate, she will soon be thoroughly repaired and ready to fill her post as long as wind and weather will permit. The EMPIRE STATE has been somewhat unfortunate in her hull, having been sunk before, from having a hole stove in her, but it has thus far been found quite impossible to drive her off the track, or in any way to diminish the confidence of the public in her superior qualities.
