The stm. JAY COOKE returned to Detroit Monday afternoon having succeeded in rescuing the scow MARY & LUCY, which some days since got ashore at Put-In-Bay. She was towed to port for the purpose of making the necessary repairs and the discharge of her cargo. The COOKE soon after her return left for Sandusky, taking on board a steam pump for the relief of the schr. H.F. MERRY, which it is stated, was leaking badly in Sandusky Bay.

      The voyage of the scow MARY & LUCY, from Cleveland, coal laden, some days since, for Detroit, was one of great peril, and came near involving the loss of the vessel and cargo and possibly her crew. Soon after leaving Cleveland she was struck by a heavy squall from about the south southwest and immediately afterwards commenced leaking badly, and ere she could be put ashore was decks to in the water. For the space of about 3 hours the pumps were exercised to the utmost, and every possibe means tried to save her, and before getting on the beach every man had become nearly overcomed by shear exhaustion. It was the MARY & LUCY that was reported as the unknown cradt a total loss at that point. She is now at this port for repairs. - Detroit Exchange, 22d.
