Vessels ashore on the American shore of Lake Erie during the big storm of November 14, 15, & 16th,1842. Schooner MERCHANT, Captain Smith, ashore at Fairport, 2 lives lost.

One of the hands washed overboard from the schr. MERCHANT, was Jocob Beazer, of this city. The name of the other man lost has not been ascertained.

      From the Erie Chronicle
Lieut. Ottinger of the Revenue cutter, has kindly furnished us the following note respecting the vessels which found protection in our harbor during the gale:--
Gentlemen - Thinking that the owners of vessels will feel much solicitude for their safety after the late gale, I give you the name of such vessels as made this port; Schr. J.H. LYON for Buffalo; schr. C.S. WEEKS for oswego; schr. EMILY for Cleveland; schr. CHIPPEWA for Maunee. The schr. REINDEER for Cleveland got into the little bay the day before the gale; the schr. CHESAPEAKE came to in the roads, with the loss of head sails and tiller; schr. MERCHANT, with rudder badly damaged. The two last named were towed into the bay as soon as the gale abated by Capt. Folger, of the stmr. ROCHESTER.
