During the storm of Sunday night (11/1) the schr. PREBLE, lumber laden and bound for Buffalo, became waterlogged 12 miles from Long Pt. The crew were obliged to abandon the vessel and put off in a small boat. They were picked up by the prop. POTOMAC and brought to this port. The tug BRYANT has been sent in search of the vessel.

The old schooner PREBLE which has been in service for 32 years has finally battled with her last gale, and on Monday November 2, yielded up the contest off Long Point in Lake Erie, and broke up into fragments. Her crew was saved by the steamer St. PAUL

The schr. PREBLE which went ashore at Long Pt. during the gale on Monday will prove a total loss. The tug BRYANT returned from the wreck last evening and reports that she has gone to pieces. The PREBLE with one exception was the oldest vessel on the lakes having been in service 32 years. She was 217 tons burden, and was built in this city in 1842 by Bidwell & Banta. At the time of her loss she had on a cargo of staves which will also be lost.
