ON A REEF. - Within a few years past the reef adjacent to the East Sister Island in Lake Erie, and known as the East Sister Reef, has been the scene of numerous disasters, resulting in a large amount of damage to the shipping. In two or three instances, vessels with their cargoes have been swallowed up, and if we mistake not, lives also have been lost. Last Saturday afternoon the schooner CORTLANDT took her departure from this port for Buffalo, with a cargo of staves, and on Sunday morning, about two o'clock she ran upon the above reef, and when last heard from, was full of water. Her situation is a precarious one, yet the weather thus far has been favorable for getting her afloat. The steamer MAGNET steamer up on Sunday afternoon for her relief, and if possible, will get her off. The CORTLANDT is owned in this city, by B. Whittaker, and is insured. - Detroit Free Press, 4th.

SCHOONER CORTLANDT IN PORT. - The wrecking steamer MAGNET, Capt. Hodges which left on Sunday afternoon to go to the relief of this vessel, on North Harbor Reef, was prompt in the discharge of that duty, occupying but a few hours time in getting her afloat and bringing her to port. The cargo was entirely saved and the damage sustained by the vessel is solely in her bottom. She is now in dry dock and will soon be in repair and again on her voyage for Buffalo. - Detroit Adv.
