DISASTER ON THE LAKE.--The Schooner CAROLINE, of this port, which left here on Saturday for Niagara with Pig Iron and merchandise, came in contact with the schooner ESSEX, bound down with wheat from Lake Erie, off Sodus at about 9 o'clock on Saturday night. Both vessels were considerably injured, the masts of the CAROLINE being nearly carried away and otherwise so much injured that she was abandoned by the crew who were carried into Genessee River by the ESSEX. The Captain of the CAROLINE arrived here yesterday in the schooner CONGRESS, and a schooner and Steamboat we understand have been dispatched in search of the CAROLINE. - Oswego Herald

GALE ON LAKE ONTARIO.---The gale on Lake Ontario which raged the last week in November, was unusually severe. The Oswego Herald says the lake presented a most terrific spectacle, and the weather became excessively cold. Most of the vessels obtained shelter. The CAROLINE, abandoned by her crew and left to the mercy of the waves off Sodus, was driven high and dry on Stony Island, near the foot of the Lake. Her cargo consisting of merchandize, much damaged, has been taken out and brought to Oswego. The vessel bilged, and most of the packages, among which were 100 bozes of tea, were broken by the action of the waves.
