Port Huron.---The schooners MIDLAND ROVER and MONTEREY came together five miles from the light and had a very serious collision. The damage to the ROVER is the end of her jibboom and her rail and stanchions forward. The MONTEREY lost her jibboom, bowsprit, rail, bulwarks, stanchions, and covering board forward. Both vessels are now here for repairs.

Detroit.---Eldridge G. Merick, owner of the schooner MONTEREY, has begun suit in the United States court against the schooner MIDLAND ROVER, for $1,000 damages, the result of a collision on Lake Huron, near the mouth of the St. Clair River, at midnight, August 13, 1887.

NOTE the MIDLAND ROVER became PHILO SCOVILLE in 1887, which was her original name before becoming a Canadian bottom.
