The schooner D.S. AUSTIN is ashore at Point Clark.

      Thursday, October 6, 1887

      Chicago.---Capt A.P. Read left for Canada Saturday to look after the schooner D.S. AUSTIN ashore on Point Clark. Before starting he received a letter from Captain Randall stating that the AUSTIN lies on a sandy bottom, with ten feet of water all around her. She had three feet of water in her hold when the letter was written.

The wrecking tug PORTER arrived down last evening with the disabled schooner D.S. AUSTIN, which will be overhauled at Dunford & Alversons.

Schooner D.S. AUSTIN of 268 tons, home port, Kenosha. Built 1872 and owned by Read. Classed at A 2. On October 4, 1887 vessel with a cargo of stone, went ashore on Lake Huron. She was got off with a property loss on hull of $10,500.
