The Maritime History of the Great Lakes
St. Lawrence (Schooner), leak, 1 Nov 1887

Description
Full Text

Marquette.--- The schooner St. LAWRENCE sailed in from Portage entry, light and leaking. She was to load stone at the quarries there, but as the first block was swung over the hatchway the chains broke and the hugh mass crushed down into the hold, opening the vessels seams by the blow. A diver here will stop the leaks and the St. LAWRENCE gets a load of ore down.
