The steamer CITY OF GREEN BAY was totally destroyed by fire at 2 o'clock Friday moning. No lives were lost.

      Saturday, November 19, 1887

Green Bay.---The passenger steamer CITY OF GREEN BAY burned at her dock. The fire originated near the boiler, and was not controlled until it had destroyed the boat above the water line, the outfit and machinery, and about one-half of the $1,500 cargo of merchandise. The boat had been in port six hours and had received only a small part of her cargo. She was seven years old, and valued at $16,000. The loss on the boat is about covered by fire insurance in the following companies: Orient, $1,500; Phoenix, of Brooklyn $3,500; Exchange, $1,500; Royal $1,500; Louisville underwriters $1,500; Commercial $1,500

      Steamer CITY OF GREEN BAY of 172 tons, owned by McCormick. Home port, Green Bay. Built 1880 and classed as A 2. On November 18, 1887, the vessel with a cargo of sundries caught fire at Green Bay. Property loss, hull $8,000 cargo $1,500.

The sidewheeler CITY OF GREEN BAY, burned a short time ago has been rebuilt and converted to a propeller.
