Full Text

ASHORE. -- The Express learns by a special dispatch from Erie that the brig CANOPUS and schooner CORINTHIAN, from Marquette to that port, with iron ore, got on the bar at the entrance to Erie Harbor, and were leaking badly. The tug S. WITT left last evening with a steam pump, to go to their assistance.
LATER. -- We learn that a telegraph was received in town late last evening from the captain of the brig CANOPUS stating that she was lying broadside to the beach, south of the piers, fast sinking into the sand, and expected every moment to break up. All of the crew were landed safely except one man, and efforts were being made to get him off.

The brig CANOPUS, Capt. Hall, and the schr. CORINTHIAN, Capt. Comstock, both bound from Marquette to this port and loaded with Lake Superior iron ore, struck the bar on the south side of the entrance to our harbor on Tuesday morning (9/20). The brig, it is thought will go to pieces, being now partially under-water, but the schooner will probably be got off. Both are owned in Buffalo.
