We submit a statement of the disasters and losses in detail, as near as it is possible to ascertain them, which have happened on the lakes in the season of 1849. The information on which it is based, is from the most authentic and reliable sources, and has been procured and compiled by Capt. Rounds, employed by the office of the Northwestern Insurance Company. The Precise loss in all the cases enumerated cannot be determined with perfect certainty, but the statement is believes to be as near the true result as it is possible to make one at this time.

Schr Outward Bound, foundered on lake Michigan; loss of vessel, cargo and crew - 10, 17,000
Schr Col. Benton, struck on Point au Barque; . . .lting part of cargo 300
Schr Ariel, sank near Chicago pier; got off; loss to vessel and cargo. 7,000
Schr John Lillie capsized on lake Michigan; got up; damage and expense, 1,000
Schr Albion, beached near Welland Canal, lake Ontario; got off; expense, 250

Brig J. Y. Scammon, dismasted on lake Michigan; towed into Milwaukee port and repaired, 1,000
Ster. Troy, struck and anchor on Sandusky flats; leaked badly; taken on dock for repairs, 1,200
Ster. Louisiana, burst steam chest, on lake Erie; killed 4 men; damaged, 600
Schr Col. Powers, Canada side of lake Ontario; got off and repaired; expense, 571
Schr Havana, beached near Buffalo; got off; damage, 100
Schr D. N. Barney, wrecked on lake Huron; loss of vessel and cargo, 6,000
Sloop Fanny, upset off Astabola; 3 lives lost,
Schr Amazon, grounded on shoal near Niagara river, lake Erie; got off; damage to vessel and cargo, 4,000
Sters Hudson and Saratoag (sic), collision on lake Erie; 3 lives lost, damage, 800
Ster New Orleans, wrecked on lake Huron; total loss, 25,000
Ster Empire, beached on Gross Point, lake Michigan; got off; damage, 3,000
Schr Anawau, beached near Cleveland; got off; damage and expense, 2,000
Brig Stambach, capsized on lake Erie;got up; 3 lives lost; damage, 3,800
Schr Acorn, sunk by collision; got up and repaired; loss to vessel and cargo, 5,000
Brig J. Y. Scammon, collsion with schr Jenny Lind, on lake Erie; loss to former, 2,500
Brig E. H. Scott, beached near Saginaw River; loss and expense, 2,000
Schr C. H. Walker, beached on Point au Pelee, lake Erie; got off, 500
Schr Lasalle, capsized off Milwaukee, lake Michigan; 7 lives lost; damage to vessel, 800
Schr Big Z, sunk at Cleveland; cargo corn; loss to vessel and cargo, 4,800
Schr Eliza Jane, sunk by col. with the Ward; crew saved; loss, 500
Schr Storm, run into by propeller at Buffalo; damage to vessel and cargo, 300
Brig Saginaw, beached at Buffalo; got off; damage and expenses, 1,600
Pro Peninsular, beached near Rondeau, C. W.; got off; loss and damage, 5,000

Brig J. Hancock, disabled in a gale on lake Michigan; run to Beaver harbor and repaired, 300
Schr A. Gilmore, struck Cleveland pier, leaked badly; damage to vessel and cargo, 500
Ster Nile, wrecked at Milwaukee; may be got off 12,000
Brig Robert Hunter, wrecked near Waukegan, lake Michigan; loss to vessel and cargo, 3,000
Brig Annie Winslow, beached at Racine, lake Michigan; got off; loss and damage, 2,000
Schr Poulett Thompson, dismasted on lake Erie, lost sails, rigging, spars and deck cargo, 2,300
Ster Keystone State, disabled in a gale on lake Michigan, completed her voyage and docked for repairs. 4,000
Ster Empire State, sprung a leak on lake Michigan, was beached; subsequently got off and repaired, 4,000
Schr Milan, sprung a leak on lake Ontario and sunk; total loss of vessel and cargo, 5,000
Schr Calcutta, beached on Point au Pelee, cargo of merchandize; got off; damage, 500
Schr Hiram Pearsons, wrecked near Calumet, lake Michigan; total loss of vessel, 4,000
Ster Fashion and schr Atlas, collision on lake Erie; partially damaged each, 400
Ster Waterloo, burned at dock in Niagara River; total loss 6,000
Schr California, sunk by collision, cargo flour; damage to vessel and cargo, 7,000
Ster Diamond and schr Buena Vista, collision near Buffalo; damage slight, 300
Brig S. C. Walbridge, ashore at Erie; got off; expenses, 500
Schr Trident, beached near Niagara, lake Ontario, got off expense, 1,200
Schr H. Crevolin, beached near Conneaut, lake Erie; damage slight, 1 man lost, expense, 1,500
Schr Niagara, beached near Euclid, lake Erie; lost sails, spars and cargo; got off, 6,000
Schr W. G. Bucknor, capsized off Milwaukee, lake Michigan, 3 lives lost, vessel raised, 800
Schrs Miranda and S. F. Gale, collision near Mackinaw; damage slight, 300
Ster Lady of the Lake, broke her shaft on lake Ontario; towed to Genesee River; loss and expense, 1,200
Brig Ontario, beached near Twin Rivers, lake Michigan; got off, 500
Sch Argo, got on shoal at Bass Island, lake Erie; jetted 3,000 bu wheat; got off, 3,000
Schr Mitchell, beached at White Lake, lake Michigan; Captain and one man lost 2, 500
Schr W. J. Pardee, wrecked on Tibbett's Point, lake Ontario, 700
Scow Louise, dismasted on lake Erie, towed into Fairport by schr Gipsey, 200
Brig McBride, disabled in gale on lake Michigan; ran Chicago; damaged cargo, 500
Schr Dewitt Clinton, beached near Fairport, 400
Schr Odd Fellow and Brig Eureka, collision; partially damaged both, 200

Schr Winnebago, wrecked near Darlington, C. W., total loss, 600
Schr Hornet, wrecked in Mexico Bay, lake Ontario; total loss, 600
Schr Mohawk, wrecked at Oswego; 3 lives lost; total loss vessel and cargo, 11,000
Ster Empire, ran on rock near Point au Pelee; damage and expense, 1,500
Schr Sarah Green, got on reef near West Sister, lake Erie; got off; damage to vessel and cargo, 1,000
Schr Georgiana, sunk in rapids river St. Lawrence; damage to vessel and cargo, 6,000
Schr Uncle Tom, wrecked on Long Point, total loss vessel and cargo, 2,000
P ro Globe, sunk near Point Albino; cargo merchandize; got up; loss and damage, 100,000
Ster Superior, broke machinery near Buffalo; loss and expenses, 3,000
Ster A. D. Patchin, broke shaft on lake Michigan; towed to Detroit, 1,000
Ster Ward, broke her machinery badly on lake Huron, towed to Detroit, 3,000
Schr M. M. Lyon, jetted deck load pork on lake Erie; loss, 1,650
Brig Shakespeare, beached at Buffalo; got off; damage and expense, 200
Pro Illinois, disabled in gale; jetted part of cargo; loss, 3,000
Brig Monteath, disabled in gale on lake Michigan; lost sails, small spars, etc., 1,500
Schr Pilot, jetted cargo on lake Huron in gale, 709
Estimated damage and loss to the shipping by the flood at Chicago in March, 25,000
