GALE -- A gale of some severity swept over lake Ontario, a few days since. We have heard of no serious disaster, save the driving ashore of the Steam-Boat GREAT BRITAIN, near Toronto. This boat, which has been said to be probably destroyed, is again afloat, and making her regular trips, as we learned yesterday, from a gentleman direct from Toronto.

GALE ON LAKE ONTARIO - With much regret we have learned of several disasters on Lake Ontario by recent gales. It appears from the following letter from Sackett's Harbour, which we copy from the Albany Journal, that that noble steam packet, the GREAT BRITAIN, was driven ashore near Toronto, and would probably be lost. If this should prove to be the case, it will not only be a loss to her enterprising owner, but be a great drawback to the comfort of those numerous travellers who make the grand tour of the lakes. Knowing that part of the lake where it is said she went ashore, we are led to hope that her vigilant commander may be enabled to get her off. Some fears are entertained that her consort, the
UNITED STATES, has met with an accident as she was three days out of time when the letter from Sackett's Harbour was sent off.
