Castalia (Brig), U4270, collision, 15 Aug 1854
Description
- Full Text
COLLISIONS IN THE HARBOR - The brig CASTALIA, which sailed from this port on Monday, but returned yesterday morning, shortly after entering the Creek, struck canal boat H.M. CADY, a little aft amidships, cutting nearly across the deck, and starting the seams so that she immediately commenced leaking. She will probably be repaired before much damage is done. The canal boat hauled across the Creek just "in the nick of time" to suffer the collision. The brig JAMES McBRIDE, in coming up the Creek during the blow, ran foul of the schooner A. BELMONT, damaging, but not seriously, her spars and rigging.
