Description
Full Text

With the loss of the brig HAMPTON on Lake Michigan a few days since passes away another of the old lake veterans which in earlier times ranked as one of the finest on the lakes. The HAMPTON was built at Pillar Pt. on Lake Ontario by A. Wilcox in 1845, and was consequently 28 years old. She was 238 tons burden, and when first commissioned there were but few larger vessels on the lakes. She has met with numerous hairbreadth escapes from total loss, and on more than one occasion was abandoned.
