Waubaushene (Barge), collision, 10 May 1879

Description
Full Text

About 9 o'clock this morning a collision occurred on the Niagara River near the Water works inlet pier, between the steam-barge BIRCKHEAD and the barge WAUBASHENE. The BIRCKHEAD and four barges were going down, in tow of the tug BRYANT, and the steam-barge ISAAC MAY and three barges coming up in tow of the tug CROWELL. In passing at the place mentioned, the strong current, it is said forced the BIRCKHEAD against the bow of the barge WAUBASHINE of the MAY's tow, and stove her in badly, breaking several planks and stanchions. The damaged boat was brought into the harbor and taken to the dry-dock for repairs.
