The Letting - The advertisement of the Board of Works, for tenders to execute a portion of the new locks, &c., on the Welland Canal, on the 15th inst., drew a great number of gentlemen from the U. States, among others, to this place, as competitors for the work.

From the circumstance of most of their public improvements having lately been suspended; the consequent scarcity of money there; and the usual eagerness to obtain contracts here, even at a moderate rate, will no doubt induce many to make very low offers. Nothing further, however, is yet known; as the proposals here cannot be decided upon until those taken in at Kingston are received, and the whole inspected by the president of the board.
