The schooner MARENGO is ashore on the Peninsula. For further particulars see our Marine Column.
The schooner MARENGO ran ashore on the northeast point of the Peninsula while attempting to enter the harbor, Tuesday evening. The vessel was without cargo and proposed to load coal here for some upper lake port. We understand the captain was mistaken in the range lights and thought he was going for the entrance of the channel, when in fact he was headed directly for the shore. Had he kept his weather eye open he would not have beached his vessel. The revenue steamer PERRY went to her assistance yesterday morning, but could not move her an inch as she was stuck hard and fast. While pulling on her in the afternoon the PERRY twisted off her port propeller shaft and sustained other damages. She steamed in with one wheel, and will have to lay up for repairs. The steamer
MICHIGAN was working at the stranded vessel last evening with poor prospects of pulling her off.
