The schr. HYPHEN, laden with iron ore from Marquette, ran ashore on East Sister Island, head of Lake Erie, on Monday night last. The tug B.B. JONES got her off with little or no damage.

      SCHOONER HYPHEN - A Detroit telegram of the 26th. says "News has reached here of the sinking of the schooner HYPHEN on Lake Erie, with the loss of three lives. The vessel got ashore on a reef near Point au Pelee, and was damaged in getting off so that she foundered very suddenly." The vessel in question was built at Milan, Ohio, in 1861 by William Shupe, measured 204 tons burden, calssed A 2, and was owned in 1867 by V. Fries Esq., of Milan.

      A wrecking party left Detroit on the 20th. to go to the wreck of the HYPHEN. The recovery of the vessel has not been abandoned. It is believed the body of Labelle, the engineer, and two others will be found in the wreck. The party will attempt to recover the steam pump and other valuable articles.

      Schooner HALPIN, [sic] of Milan, and 7 years old, bound from Oswego to Cleveland, struck on North East Reef and sunk in 16 feet of water. Three of the crew were lost and five saved. No date but in 1868.
