The Maritime History of the Great Lakes
Charles K. Nims (Schooner), U4271, collision, 6 Jun 1881

Description
Full Text

While the schr. C.K. NIMS was going down Chicago River Friday in tow of a tug, she collided with the prop. COMMODORE, bound up. The collision appears to have been caused by the propeller taking a sudden sheer when close to the schooner, which the tug was unable to check in time. The NIMS lost her jibboom, but the propeller escaped injury.
