Chicago, Oct. 29 - Advices to owners today state that the stmr. CITY OF LONDON is ashore near Detour. The two whaleback barges which the stmr. had in tow escaped going on the beach. The steamer does not seem to be in bad shape, and may be released without material damage if the weather is favorable.

Sault Ste. Marie, Oct. 30 - The stmr. CITY OF LONDON, ashore near Detour, was
released by the tugs GLADIATOR and MERRICK last night, after jettisoning about 100 tons of coal. She reached Detour last night and was not leaking.
