Description
Full Text

At 7:15 this morning a steam chest in the engine room of the propeller CHICAGO, lying in the Central Freight House, burst with considerable force, and a portion of the chest weighing about 75 pounds, landed on the dock some 25 feet distant. First engineer Kennedy was badly scalded, and the engine room was damaged. Sergent Green of Watt's force, narrowly escaped being struck by flyin fragments. The cause of the explosion is believed to have been an over pressure of steam.
