TUG "ALFRED W." SINKS NEAR PORT ARTHUR.
      The tug ALFRED W., which left Port Arthur yesterday for Duluth, struck a rock at Pie Island, slipping into deep water and sinking immediately. The crew were taken off in a small boat.

      TUG ALFRED W. STRUCK A ROCK.
Port Arthur, Ont., June 29. - While running through a dense fog, the tug ALFRED W., struck a rock here yesterday at Pie Island. The boat slipped off into deep water and immediately sank, leaving the crew of nine struggling for life in the water. A small boat was floated, and all succeeded in swimming to it, and later making land.
The steamer KAMINISTIQUA left yesterday to rescue the crew, who are without food or shelter. The tug belongs to the Duluth & Lake Superior Dredging Company.
