Full Text

The MAZEPPA, ONTARIO THERESA and ANNIE CRAIG, all Island ferry's were moored in the Church Street slip when they were burned, two others the J.L. McEDWARDS and the ARLINGTON got up steam and tried to move the others, but a schooner, the WILLIAM ELGIN was moored in such a way as to make it impossible, they were all finished. The ARLINGTON was so hot that her Captain had to go below to escape the heat, and he let the vessel steam her own way out of the slip. The ARLINGTON and the McEDWARDS were only scorched. The MINDEN, VERONICA and SPRITE were blocked in their slip by the stone-hooker MAPLE LEAF, all four were totally burnt. The schooner MADALINE and MARY ANN were badly burnt, but were repaired
