Description
Full Text

There seems to be little doubt here of the loss of the schooner BELLE MITCHELL in the great storm of Thursday night. She left Toledo Wednesday night with wheat for Buffalo. It is feared that she is the schooner reported as going to pieces off Erie. She is owned by A.F. Barber of Clayton, N.Y. and Capt. Rushe.

There can no longer by any doubt of the loss of the schooner BELLE MITCHELL which disappeared during the recent gale on the lakes. Monday a quantity of wreckage from the schooner was driven ashore. With it was the body of the schooner's cook, Mrs. Dick, a sister of Capt. Rushe, the vessel's commander.

Buffalo, Nov. 10 - Capt. Ellis of the stmb. BELLE CROSS, which arrived this morning, reports seeing the body of a man, matresses and boat furniture in the lake 4 miles out from Dunkirk. The captain saw the wreckage just before dark last night, but being encumbered with a tow could not stop to pick it up. Vessel men are of the opinion that the wreckage is from the ill-fated BELLE MITCHELL, which went down in the big gale.
