The crew escaped in a yawl boat and drifted about for 22 hours in a heavy sea. They then sighted the steamer FRED PABST, which took them to a port. They were 36 hours without food.

From Capt. Saunders of the steamer MARK B. COVELL the Wisconsin learns that early Sunday evening, the capsized schooner EMMA BANNER drifted to within a short distance of the beach about one and a half miles south of Manistee harbor piers. Monday morning the tug IRMA L. WHEELER got a line to the craft, towed her into Manistee harbor, and then righted her. Capt. Saunders reports the BANNER partially dismasted. Her deck appears to be gone, and she presents a dilapidated appearance generally. No effort has been made to free her of water.
