TWO YOUNG MEN NARROWLY ESCAPE BEING DROWNED.
North Tonawanda, Oct. 23. - Edward Wood, twenty-four year old, son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Wood of Grant Avenue, narrowly escaped being drowned when the dredge SAMPSON, being towed from Buffalo to Rogers City, Mich., was capsized in Thunder Bay during the rough sea that swept the lakes Friday night. With a Buffalo young man, whose name is not known, Wood clung to the overturned dredge for five hours before being taken off by the tug that was towing the SAMPSON.
After the dredge overturned the towing line broke and the cries of the Buffalo and North Tonawanda youths, the only persons on the boat, were not heard. When daylight broke the crew of the tug found that the dredge was gone. The tug turned around and took the young men off the SAMPSON in a thoroughly exhausted condition.
