The stms. J.C. GILCHRIST and the JOHN SHERWIN collided in
Whitefish Bay last Friday night while attempting to force passage
through the floating ice and both vessels were somewhat damaged.
The SHERWIN was leading the GILCHRIST, and when the SHERWIN
struck the GILCHRIST could not stop in time and rammed her.
      The stern of the SHERWIN was battered some and the stem of
the GILCHRIST was twisted.
