Alpena, May 29. -- The steamer H. D. COFFINBERRY, which went on the rocks at Thunder Bay Island yesterday, was released early this morning in a badly damaged condition. Her forefoot is gone and planks are opened at her stem. It was with the greatest difficulty that the steamer was got into port after her release. On her way from the Thunder Bay Island she narrowly escaped sinking. A diver is putting a patch to enable the steamer to get to a port of repair.
The COFFINBERRY's consort, CHECOTAH, was not released until 10 o'clock this morning, and after a considerable portion of her cargo had been lightered. Her condition was not yet learned.
