The Maritime History of the Great Lakes
Hattie B. Pereue (Propeller), U95743, sunk, 2 Sep 1902

Full Text

The propeller HATTIE B. PERUE sank at the entrance to Ludington Harbor yesterday. The boat sprang a leak off Big Point and filled rapidly. Capt. John Kemming ordered the pumps started and headed for Ludington, blowing whistles of distress which soon brought a tug to his assistance. Although the fires on the propeller were out and the water was over her deck, the tug managed to get the boat as far as the entrance to the harbor. There she sank in 20 feet of water. The tug took the captain and crew off and carried them to Ludington. It is not thought that the boat can be saved. Her cargo of 275,000 feet of lumber was entirely lost.
