Pelican (Schooner), aground, 1 Nov 1873

Description
Full Text

A dispatch from Marquette, Wednesday says the schr. PELICAN is reported ashore near Grand Island. The prop. MINNEAPOLIS is also ashore neat Shot Pt. about 20 miles below here.
The PELICAN is the consort of the stmb. EGYPTIAN, and it is feared that it is the latter craft that is ashore instead of the MINNEAPOLIS, inasmuch as it is thought the MINNEAPOLIS could hardly have been in that locality.

A dispatch to H.J. Winslow, from Marquette yesterday says the schr. PELICAN is on a sand bar in the east channel, outside the harbor. The EGYPTIAN is all right and pulling at the PELICAN. We understand the sand bar mentioned to be at Grand Island aout 30 miles from Marquette. It is believed by the mariners here that the dispatch reporting the MINNEAPOLIS ashore is a mistake.
