A special dispatch from Detroit says that the new prop. PORTAGE is ashore at Bar Pt., bound down. The stm. R.N. RICE was working at her at latest advice. She was lying easy and not leaking. She will belightered.

      A special dispatch from Detroit says that the prop. PORTAGE, which went ashore at Bar Pt., was pulled off yesterday by the stm. R.N. RICE, after lightering 7,000 bu. of her cargo.

Detroit, Oct. 9. -- The propeller PORTAGE now on her first voyage, is ashore at Bar Point, lake Erie, and the steamer R. N. RICE is trying to get her off. The PORTAGE was also ashore at Peche Island yesterday, but was released without damage. The weather at present is in her favour.
