COLLISION ON THE LAKES.
      Steamer GILBERT Runs Down And Sinks The America In Hay Lake Channel.
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Oct. 18. -- Early this morning the steamer GILBERT collided with and sank the AMERICAN in Hay Lake Channel. The GILBERT was uninjured.
