FISH TUG CUT IN TWO
The ELK Run Down By The Steamer SYRACUSE Off Commercial Street This Morning.
The fish tug ELK, owned by the Niagara Falls Pulp Works Company, was sunk at 10:30 o'clock this morning by the Western Transit liner SYRACUSE off the foot of Commercial Street.
The SYRACUSE was coming into the harbor to seek shelter from the gale and was driven against the ELK, which was moored at the foot of Commercial Street, striking the tug with terrific force and almost cutting her in two.
Several tugs went to the ELK's assistance and succeeded in getting the sinking tug into the slip, but she made water so fast that the pumps could not keep her afloat and she went down.
