Full Text

The Rochester Advertiser gives the following version of the attempt to destroy the stm. GREAT BRITAIN. Lett it will be recollected is the unhung murdered of Capt. Usher, and from various circumstances is believed to be the principal concerned in blowing up Brock's Monument.
Attempt To Destroy the GREAT BRITAIN -- We learn that an atrocious attempt was made on Friday last, to destroy the stm. GREAT BRITAIN at Oswego, by means of a trunk or box, filled with explosive articles, and furnished with a slow match. But, fortunately for the boat as well as those who might have been injured, as also for the cause of justice, the explosion took place sooner than was anticipated, burning though not severely one of the persons engaged in the nefarious scheme. This person, name not recollected, and Benjamin Lett, an accomplice or probably the leader in the affair, have been committed to jail in Oswego to await a judicial award on the attempt in question. They find no commiseration in that place, nor ought they expect it, when it is remembered that the execution of their plan might have involved in destruction many of their fellow beings. The attempt was atrociously wicked, and the actors deserve severe punishment. (3-1)
