There are 50 steam boats and 160 vessels employed at Buffalo on Lake Erie, valued at four million of dollars. The canal boats engaged in passing to end from Buffalo are numbered at 1,030, valued at one million. The total capital employed in the forwarding business from New York to Chicago, by the Buffalo route, is estimated at £6,500,000.
