The Welland Canal - We take pleasure in being able to lay before the citizens of this place, numerous and highly important facts in relation to this channel of communication, in the full confidence that they are sufficiently decisive in their character, to annihilate the deleterious efforts sought to be produced by the miserable, lame and impotent efforts that have long since characterized some of the Buffalo papers at least in their endeavours to advance their own selfish interests, through frustration of ours. They have looked with a jealous eye upon the rapid grown and increasing business of Oswego, and upon its destruction, it would seem, have their main efforts been hitherto, and still are, directed. The active measures taken by them, in the recent troubles among our Canadian neighbours, and the contemptible means used to shielf themselves from the odium, which they receive and merrit, and to attach it to others, justifies the conclusion that selfish and interested motives prompted them, and that their main object has nbeen to create a prejudicial influence between the managers of the Welland Canal and the citizens of this and other places interested in that important work. We are of the opinion, however, that they will find their attempts futile and unprofitable; and that instead of inflicting any very severe injury upon this place, by the course which they have adopted, the "fears of western merchants" about "uxtaious delays", &c., will be directed towards the place in which such feable and prefectly groundless asertions had their origin. - Oswego Com. Her.
