SCHOONER SUNK.
NORTHWEST, Bound For Buffalo, Went to the Bottorp, But the Crew Escaped.
Mackinaw island, Mich., April 7. --The schooner NORTH WEST, bound from Chicago to Buffalo with grain, in tow of the steamer AURORA, was sunk by the ice near Waugoshance yesterday morning. She carried a cargo of 76,600 bushels of corn, shipped by Counselman & Co. The AURORA, with the barges POLYNESIA and NORTH WEST in tow, left Chicago last Saturday. The AURORA and POLYNESIA passed Mackinaw City bound down at 6:30 o'clock this morning.
The report was brought here by the steamer RALEIGH, which arrived here for repairs to her bow, which was slightly damaged in coming through the ice in Lake Michigan last night. The crew of the NORTH WEST was rescued by the AURORA. The NORTH WEST registers 966 net tons and was built in 1873. She is owned by James Corrigan of Cleveland. Both vessel and cargo are insured.
