TWO BAD COLLISIONS,
Following are the particulars of the late collision on Lake Michigan; The schooner STARKE, bound from Norwood, Mich., Milwaukee, with a cargo of maple lumber, came in collision Saturday night with the schooner C. E. WYMAN, light, about 16 miles off Port Washington. The WYMAN had the wind free while the STARKE was by the wind. The STARKE was struck on the port side amidships and cut down so that she waterlogged in a few minutes. The WYMAN started her stem, and after the vessels separated headed for Sheboygan, which port, she reached in a leaky condition. Capt. Bennett of the STARKE finding that his vessel kept up, headed for the north in hopes to reach some port in safety. When off Amsterdam, and about seven miles off the land, at half-past 6 o'clock yesterday morning, the sea which had made in the meantime washed the deck load overboard and the vessel capsized. The crew then took to the yawl and rowed to Amsterdam, from which point Capt. Bennett came to Milwaukee and reported the disaster to the owner of the STARKE, Theodore Plathner. He said that in addition to crashing through the hull the WYMAN carried away two shrouds of the STARKE's fore-rigging and two shrouds of the main-rigging, besides ruining her foresaiI. The tug

Another collision with serious results occurred off Little Point Sauble Saturday night between the steamer IDA E. and the schooner BELLE of Racine. The steamer was bound from Manistee to Milwaukee with a cargo of lumber. The BELLE was light for Hopkin's Pier. The schooner was struck just forward of the fore-rigging and cut diwn to the water's edge. The crew thought their vessel was sinking and took to the small boat, in which they came on board the steamer. They returned when it was found the schooner was making no water and the IDA E. towed her to this port. She is at the Milwaukee Company's yard for repairs. The IDA E. had her stern split.

Evidence in the collision case of the schooner STARKE against the schooner CHARLES E. WYMAN, docketed for hearing during the March term of the United States district court for the eastern district of Wisconsin, is now being taken. The collision occurred off Port Washington last summer, the STARKE, which was laden with a floatable cargo, receiving damage which caused her to waterlog and capsize. The claim preferred against the WYMAN is for $7,000. According to current gossip the owners of the WYMAN offered to settle for something over one-half of this sum but met with a refusal. Hence they concluded to let Judge Jenkins determine the amount of their liability should the WYMAN be found at fault.
