MAUD -- AMERICA -- CITY OF MIDLAND -- MIDLAND CITY
      MAUD, built at Kingston 1871, a paddle wheel steamer of 293 tons gross. length 114 feet; breadth19 feet and depth of hold 6 feet. She was rebuilt at Kingston in 1895 and renamed AMERICA, now of 521 tons gross, 153 x 35 x 6. Renamed CITY OF MIDLAND in 1921 and rebuilt at Midland in 1922, her name was then changed to MIDLAND CITY. After her rebuild in 1922 she is listed at 580 tons gross. Steam engines were replaced by motors in 1933.

A composite built vessel driven by paddle- wheels and owned by the Georgian Bay Tourist Co., of Midland, Ont. 56.53 horse power, licensed to carry 550 passengers.

      In 1955 the MIDLAND CITY was abandoned and deliberately burned at the mouth of the Wye River in Midland Bay. Her hull lies in 12 feet of water and her stern is indicated (1975) by a black marker buoy.

      NOTE:-- apparently the remains of the MIDLAND CITY was covered by fill when constructing a breakwall for a local marina.
