Harbor beach, Mich., Nov. 14. -- In the storm today the steamer EMERALD became disabled by the breaking of her machinery off Port Hope, and soon waterlogged after falling off into the troughs of the sea. In response to distress signals the lifesaving crew from the Point au Barques station soon put out to the wreck and took off the crew. The EMERALD was downbound with lumber.
Port Hope, Mich. Nov. 14. -- When the crew of the steamer EMERALD were taken off the wreck early today by the lifesavers they were in a freezing condition and could not have held out much longer. No effort was made to save the steamer, which is now drifting down Lake Huron in a waterlogged condition, her cargo of lumber and cedar alone keeping the derelict afloat. There were nine in the crew who were rescued and brought to the Lifesaving Station at Point au Barques, where they were cared for. The EMERALD was bound from Alpena to Detroit when she succumbed to the gale last night.

Port Huron, Mich., Nov. 15. -- The abandoned steamer EMERALD is adrift in Lake Huron about three miles off Harbor Beach. The lifesavers at Harbor Beach request that masters of all upbound boats be warned of the dangerous obstruction right in the track of vessels up Lake Huron. The northwest gale continued today.
