J. C. Gilchrist was yesterday advised by his broker at Duluth to abandon the steamer V. SWAIN, to the underwriters. The vessel settled on a rock in 20 feet of water when she sank a few days ago and it is believed she has broken in two forward of the boiler house

J. C. Gilchrist yesterday afternoon abandoned the steamer V. SWAIN, sunk at Two Harbors, to the underwriters as a total loss. This course was advised by his Duluth broker.
