The schooner GRACE WHITNEY, built in 1866 is aground above the life saving station at Port Huron. The crew was rescued by the life savers. The condition of the boat depends in the ending of the storm.

The schooner GRACE WHITNEY, after her tow line had been parted from the propeller SICKEN, was driven ashore in a heavy gale on Lake Huron Sunday night at a point one mile above the life-saving station of Port Huron, and six miles above Fort Gratiot light. As soon as the vessel went aground the seas began to roll over the deck, making the crew's position very perilous. At daylight the crew manned the lifeboat and started for shore, but the small craft was capsized and the men would have been lost had it not been for the timely arrival of the lifesaving crew. The schooner was coal laden and worth $10,000. She probably will go to pieces.
