The correspondent at Racine says" The brig MECHANIC, sunk between the piers at that place will prove a total loss. She was built at Detroit in 1848 of 312 tons burden.

After eight years of litigation the tug from which the brig MECHANIC broke away, off Racine, and was lost, is made responsible for the loss of the vessel.

NOTE:-- The 1877 excerpt from the Cleveland Herald, is difficult to understand, the 1848 built brig MECHANIC was not a total loss at Racine in 1868 was not a total loss, and was listed until 1879 ??
