The popular little ferry BEATRICE which plied between Fort Gratiot and Point Edward was discovered to be on fire about 2 a.m. this morning. Capt. McGregor was awakened and escaped and the boat was set adrift. The tug ONTARIO succeeded in pulling the blazing wreck ashore below P.B. Sanborn's elevator. She is a total wreck.

A dispatch states that the small Canadian freight and passenger steamer BEATRICE was burned at or near Sarnia yesterday morning. She was valued at about $5,000. No loss of life was mentioned.
