A CAPTAIN UP A TREE. - The captain of the schooner Ben Franklin, at Oswego, discharged a gang of men he had hired to load his vessel; was sued for the amount of the contract, and resisted execution, ejecting the officer. On an attempt to arrest him for assault, he took refuge in the cross trees and yelled his orders to the deck; the sailors obeyed him rather than the officer, and the schooner was towed to the lake. The captain of the tug alongside the Franklin finally put his helm one way at the order of the constable, while the wheelsman of the schooner, at the order of the captain aloft, put his helm the other way. Result, the Franklin ran into the Sassacus, and both vessels were seriously injured. The captain was locked up, but afterwards discharged on $500 bail. And all this trouble over a disputed labor bill whose entire amount was only $20. There is nothing like law.
